Sista, you've been on my mind....

My sweet sister, Jennifer, got me a Mother's Day gift...

a fantastic new cupcake cookbook!!

Before any of you speculate.....NO! I'm not a mother and have NO plans of being a mother anytime soon.  I think my Mother's Day gift had more to do with the fact that Mother's Day was the first day she saw me to give me the gift and less to do with the fact that I've actually birthed something.  Unless maybe she thinks I birth cupcakes?  Or, maybe birth the creativity behind cupcakes!?!  Who knows?

Regardless, I have a fabulous, amazing, thoughtful sister who got me the most amazing gift on a day in which I think they made especially for her, because, my sister is not only a wonderful sister and friend, but, she happens to be a fantastic mother to two of the most adorable, hilarious and brilliant boys.

I love you, sister!!

the lisa margarita (and layla too!)

One of my most favorite people on the planet happens to be one, Lisa Margarita.  She and I met in college when we lived on the same floor in the dorm our freshman year.  Lisa, whose room was at the end of the hallway, would pass my room on the way to hers.  She didn't just pass my room though, she would often stick her head in and say something funny, flash me or do something else completely hilarious and sometimes slightly inappropriate. :)  So, obviously, I instantly fell in love with her!  A couple of years later, we ended up rooming together for the summer at Mama Wendy's house, where we'd do things like eat pints of ice cream (switching half way through so we could try each others) while we watched S in the C (remember that, Lisa?), take random trips to Ulta where we'd slather on absurd amounts of make-up, finger nail polish and perfume, so much so, we'd come out smelling ridiculous and looking like hot messes, and play beauty shop where Lisa would hook me up with some pretty amazing side-sweeping bangs!!

Lisa and I have the kind of friendship that is completely effortless.  We could not see or talk to each other for years and then pick right back up where we left off.  It's fantastic.  She's fantastic.

Lisa is an amazing person.  She's beautiful, generous, kind, incredibly funny and the girl beat a brain tumor.  What more could you ask for in a friend??  Nothing, people! Nothing.  She is fabulous and she is about to bring a little bit more fabulous into the world in the form of a sweet baby girl, who will be joining us sometime in June.

The newest cupcake is in honor of this woman who I adore and am so thankful for and her sweet baby who I can't wait to meet and spoil!

weekend o' cupcakes

I have spent the entire weekend making and decorating cupcakes.  It's a hard life, but, someone has to do it!

I had so many orders this weekend that I had to write them all down to keep them straight.  I understand that this is a semi-archaic system but it actually worked quite nicely and kept my obessive compulsive "check and re-check" neurosis at bay.

So, here is what I made betwen Thursday night and Sunday morning.....

WAIT!! That's not it....my nephew spent the night with me and decided he wanted to get in on the cupcake action.  So, being the amazing aunt I am, I made him 24 cupcakes to decorate on his own!  He went to town with the left-over icing and made some pretty awesome cupcakes.

He was most proud of this one that he affectionately named "mount cupcake"

He also may or may not have eaten icing straight from the pastry bag.
(note: i reeeeally hope my sister doesn't read my blog!!)

Total amount of cupcakes baked and decorated this weekend: 168!!!

Can I get an AMEN??
