the birth of the cupcake queen

The very first cupcakes that I made and decorated were for my friendsistacousin, Brandi. It was Brandi's first birthday away from home (she was in her first semester of college) and I decided I wanted to throw her a little impromptu party. My grandmommie taught my sister, brother and I how to make icing and decorate cakes when we were younger, but at that point in time, I was less than interested in anything she or any other adult had to say so I never really paid much attention. Fast forward to Brandi's birthday: Grandmommie had recently moved out of the house she had lived in for many years and cleaned out all of her things in the process. She gave me a set of cake decorating supplies that she found. I took all of the supplies to appease her but in the back of my mind was thinking I would no more bake or decorate cakes than I would sit naked outside on a hot Louisiana summer day without bug spray. You know what I'm saying?? I mean, I'm the girl who set off a smoke detector boiling water. What exaclty was I suppose to do with cake decorating supplies??

For some reason, I still don't quite understand, I attempted to make Brandi birthday cupcakes and ended up loving every minute! Who knew?? Certainly not me.

My very fabulous friendsistacousin, Brandi!

The somewhat of a hot mess cupcakes I made for her birthday.
I must say my skills have improved.

Brandi and her sweet niece, Allison. She liked the cupcakes more than anyone!

A little cupcake kiss, anyone?
